Amlin announces Bermuda team

16 November 2005

Amlin plc, the leading Lloyd's insurer, today announced that the underwriting team for its new US$1 billion Amlin Bermuda operation will be headed by Underwriting Director, John Andrews. An industry veteran with over 25 years' experience in the London market, John currently underwrites Amlin's proportional treaty account and is Syndicate underwriter for Amlin Credit. He is a member of the Lloyd's Reinsurance Business Panel, Syndicate representative on the Lloyd's Japan Board and a member of Lloyd's China and India sub committees.

Ben Savill is the second underwriter joining the Bermuda team. His previous experience includes Amlin's US Risk excess, catastrophe and casualty account, prior to his current role as Property Treaty Underwriter with responsibility for US and Canadian accounts. John and Ben will be supported by Assistant Underwriters, Lisa O'Toole and Sophie Chapman.

Amlin anticipates that the team will be in situ in early December in order to underwrite 1 January renewals. Applications have been filed with the Bermuda Department of Immigration for the issue of the appropriate work permits. Whilst initially business will comprise primarily excess of loss reinsurance, other lines including proportional treaty will be written by Amlin Bermuda.

David Harris, Amlin's Operations Director, will be overseeing the set up of the business in its initial phase.

Tony Holt, Group Underwriting Director, commented: "At Amlin, we are fortunate in having significant underwriting talent and experience across our Syndicate. This pool enables us to transfer a high quality team to Bermuda whilst maintaining our strength in London. We have been greatly encouraged by the positive response received from brokers and clients to Amlin Bermuda and are confident that John's team will build a successful portfolio, while maintaining underwriting discipline."
