Charles Penruddocke
Leading Class Underwriter

The Pro Rata & Special Risks team is headed by Charles Penruddocke. Charles joined Amlin Bermuda in February 2010 bringing more than 30 years of reinsurance experience in Underwriting and Broking. Having started his career as an International Lloyd’s broker with the predecessor Company to Greig Fester Group, he moved to New York in 1982 to establish the broking arm in the USA which he ran for 10 years before starting underwriting with F&G Re in Morristown, New Jersey in 1993. He was a senior member of the team who started underwriting Property and Specialty reinsurance for Arch Re in Bermuda in December 2001 and continued to lead their International property and Specialty business until the end of 2009. He is an ACII.

Richard Neame Class Underwriter, Specialty Lines

Richard has worked in reinsurance since 1988. He began his career at Guy Carpenter as a US treaty broker and joined Greig Fester in 1992, as a broker in the credit, bond and political risk reinsurance team. After completing a full time MBA at Cranfield in 1996, he joined Venton Lloyd’s Managing Agency as Corporate Development Manager. In 1998, he moved to Bermuda with Mid Ocean Re which was merged into XL Re shortly thereafter. For 10 years at XL Re Richard underwrote “special risks” business including whole account, marine & energy, aviation & space, political risk & trade credit and other miscellaneous classes. Most business was written through pro rata treaties. Richard was appointed class underwriter for Amlin Bermuda’s pro rata and specialty lines business in January 2009.

Andrew Shaw
Underwriting Assistant

Andrew joined Amlin Bermuda as part of the graduate training
programme in 2006, having graduated with a BSc Hons in Biology,
with a genetics specialisation. Currently he is working as an
underwriting assistant on the international book of business,
as well as the proportional book of business.
He received his certificate in general insurance from the Insurance
Institute of America (IIA) in 2008 and is working towards his
CPCU (Chartered Property Casualty Underwriters) designation
and ARe (Associate in Reinsurance) designation from the American
Institute, for CPCU and IIA respectively.
